Current Obsession: She Sheds

I recently learned what a “she shed” is and boy, oh boy, have I been fantasizing about having one in my own backyard ever since! For those not familiar, a “she shed” is a term used to describe what would be considered the equivalent of a “man cave.” It is essentially a refuge where a woman can escape to and utilize in any way she wants. They are stand alone structures, usually built in a backyard, and come in a wide array of materials (but most commonly wood). They are super versatile and can be used as home offices, workout spaces, art studios, dens and more.

Below, we’ve gathered a collection of the most darling and enviable she sheds we’ve encountered. They are sure to inspire you to create a she shed oasis of your very own!

Pool House Hangout

If you’re fortunate enough to have a backyard pool of your very own, add additional living space and entertaining space by creating a pool house shed. This 2nd living room provides a respite from the sun on those extra hot days. The wet bar, which features an accordion window, allows you to serve all your guests at once and keep the drinks coming.

Art Studio

This is every creative’s dream: a place of one’s own to draw, sculpt, and paint in peace! The large windows and doors allow nature to flow in and inspire all of your creations (as well as allow for ventilation of paint fumes).

Greenhouse

A greenhouse is a classic and expected choice for a she shed. For gardening aficionados, spending hours a day in a sun filled glass enclosed paradise of lush plants is a day well spent.

Yoga Studio

The easiest way to stay grounded and centered -even in a house full of chaos- is by turning your she shed into your very own yoga studio! Nothing says zen like the peace and tranquility of your own workout area just a few steps from your own home.

Guest House

Turning a shed into an in-law suite or guest house is an excellent use of space, especially if you frequently have loved ones come to visit. With so many cooling and heating options available, it wouldn’t take much to transform the space into viable sleeping quarters. As a bonus, it would probably be more economical than an addition to your home, too.
